Bell Vine

A Bell Vine I saw on holiday in Wales. This was 'painted' completely using Letraset Aquamarkers, (water-based ink markers).

I pencilled the basics and then went in with the markers, expecting them to be a bit streaky. But, after using a stiffer, synthetic brush to mix the pigment with water I was impressed with how bright and manageable they were.
The colours seem brighter than my usual watercolour work. The flowers are done with just a few dabs of the pens, as they mix with water instantly to show quite a lot of pigment and i wanted to keep them pale.
I started to get confident and added 'backwashes' of plain water dropped into the pigment on the background areas:D

The scan has left out some of the subtler brushwork but its a pretty good representation.

The leaves used 'fern green', 'peacock blue' & 'mahogany' markers.
The flowers are just 'peacock blue' & 'raspberry' markers.

I agree! Sometimes when you limit your media, you get more creative with it... sometimes :D

Stunning!
Your technique allows beautiful, natural blendings with markers. A real pleasure to my eyes!
